Testimonial of Ray Duffin
I was moving house in Dublin over a weekend at the beginning of October 2016. I had to move out on the Friday, but would not have access to the new house until the following Monday afternoon, maybe the Tuesday.
I called two companies to quote, and prices were similar. I chose Hanway on the basis of what I felt would be a more personal, and hopefully more careful, service. I liked it that Joe Hanway came out to the house to assess the job and that it was he and his sons who would be actually doing the move. He explained that they would be doing the packing, the taking away, the unpacking into their warehouse, the reloading and then the delivery to my new home. I was at first a bit uneasy about all that handling, but Joe was very reassuring, and as things turned out, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Throughout the process, I had a sense that the team, three of them, and especially Joe's son (also Joe) really cared about doing it right.
They dropped off some boxes prior to the move, but despite my plans to pack some stuff myself in advance, I had too much going on and when moving day Friday arrived, the guys had to do everything from scratch. I must say I was surprised at the high level of individual wrapping as everything went into boxes which were then labelled for unpacking. Nothing seemed to present a problem, beds, wardrobes, wheelbarrow, even the piano, and four hours later, the house was empty and the lorry was leaving.
I got the keys of the new house late on the Monday, and had agreed with Joe that the move -in would be on Tuesday morning.
They arrived about 9am, the drive of the new house couldn't accommodate the big van , so they had brought a smaller van to shuttle from the big van out on the road to the door. This meant that things took longer, but the team expressed no problem with this, and it worked well to give me a bit of time on my own in the house to sort stuff while the next van-full was being collected. They paid a lot of attention to detail. I showed Joe junior the utility room and where the washing machine was to go; when he came out 5 minutes later, the machine was in place with the water hoses connected up and ready to go. Two wardrobes left in the house by the previous owner needed to be moved...no problem, even when I changed my mind as to where one of them was to go.
All in all, the entire process went really well and I was very happy with the service. Joe Senior can look a bit grumpy at times, but he's great, and Joe junior has just the kind of smiling, 'let's get it done' attitude that you want to see when you're in a situation where there are lots of issues arising as you go.
I've no hesitation in recommending Hanway. I must call them to come back now to take away the boxes.
